Lighting a unity candle. This is probably the most well-known wedding ritual that symbolizes unity. The origins of the tradition are unclear, but it became popular sometime in the second half of the 20th century. The bride and groom each hold a lit candle and combine their flames to light a third, larger candle. This ritual is also a great way to involve your parents and/or children in your wedding ceremony.
